Dashboard Templates

Dashboard Templates are pre-configured widget layouts that can be assigned to organizational roles and used as starting points for new users. Instead of every team member building their dashboard from scratch, admins define authoritative layouts for each role — OpEx Coordinator, Team Leader, PMO — and those layouts are applied automatically when matching users first access their dashboard.

Overview

In a pharma or manufacturing transformation program, different roles need different operational signals at a glance. A team leader needs their daily SQCDP board and overdue actions front and center. A PMO coordinator needs project milestone tracking and portfolio health widgets. An OpEx coordinator needs audit completion rates and escalation queues.

Dashboard Templates let admins encode these role-specific layouts once and propagate them consistently across the organization. Templates act as a starting configuration — users can still personalize their dashboards after the template is applied.

Getting Started

  1. Navigate to Settings > Dashboard Templates.
  2. Click Create New to open the template creation dialog.
  3. Enter a Name for the template (required) and an optional Description.
  4. Toggle Set as Default if this template should apply to all new users who do not match a more specific role-assigned template.
  5. Click Save. The new template appears in the template list with a default widget layout.
  6. To assign the template to specific roles, click the Assign Roles button (person icon) next to the template. Toggle the roles that should receive this template.
  7. To edit or rename an existing template, click the Edit button (pencil icon).
  8. To delete a template, click the Delete button (trash icon) and confirm the deletion.
Role assignment takes precedence

If a user matches multiple templates through role assignment, the most specific role-assigned template applies. The template marked as Default applies only to users who do not match any role-assigned template.

Configuration

Template Fields

FieldRequiredDescription
NameYesHuman-readable label for the template, shown in the admin list and in user dashboards.
DescriptionNoOptional context for administrators, such as the intended audience or the layout rationale.
Set as DefaultNoWhen enabled, this template is applied to new users who do not match any role-assigned template. Only one template can be the organization default.

Default Widget Layout

When a new template is created, it is initialized with a standard operational layout:

WidgetPositionSize
Stats CardsTop rowFull width
SQCDP HealthSecond rowFull width
My TasksThird row, left halfHalf width
Overdue ItemsThird row, right halfHalf width

Admins can customize the widget layout further using the dashboard editor after the template is created.

Role Assignment

Clicking Assign Roles on a template opens a dialog listing all pharma roles available in the organization. Toggle each role on or off to control which user groups receive this template. Multiple roles can be assigned to the same template. Each role can be assigned to only one template at a time — assigning a role to a new template removes it from the previous assignment.

Available role categories include operations roles (team leaders, area managers), OpEx roles (OpEx coordinators, CI specialists), project management roles (PMO, project managers), and executive roles.

Template Badges

The template list displays metadata badges alongside each template name:

  • Default badge (star icon) — indicates the organization-wide default template.
  • Role badges — shows the first three assigned roles as tags. If more than three roles are assigned, a count badge (e.g., +2) indicates additional roles.

Permissions

RoleAccess

All other rolesNo access. All template operations are scoped to admin roles via orgProcedure.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Create one template per major role cluster. Rather than creating a template for every individual role, group roles with similar information needs. A single "Operations" template serving team leaders, area managers, and shift supervisors is easier to maintain than three separate nearly identical templates.
  • Name templates by audience, not by layout. Use names like "Team Leader — Daily Operations" rather than "Layout with SQCDP + Actions". This makes the intent clear in the admin list and when users see their template name.
  • Set a Default template. Always configure one template as the organization default so that new users do not start with an empty dashboard. The built-in SQCDP + Tasks layout is a safe, broadly useful starting point.
  • Use Description to document the design intent. Future administrators who inherit your organization configuration will benefit from knowing why a template was designed with particular widgets.
  • Deleting a template does not reset user dashboards. Users who have already had a template applied retain their current dashboard layout when the template is deleted. Deletion only prevents the template from being applied to new users.
  • Widget Catalog -- Enable or disable the widget types available for use in dashboard templates and user dashboards.
  • Roles & Permissions -- Manage the organizational roles that can be targeted by template role assignments.
  • Workspace Management -- Workspace-level settings that complement organization-level dashboard configuration.
