Benchmarking

Benchmarking is ProBeya's cross-site KPI comparison engine. For organizations with multiple manufacturing sites, plants, or offices, it aggregates KPI data from each site and presents executive-level views: site-by-site comparisons, SQCDP scorecard matrices, trend overlays, and performance rankings — all with traffic-light status indicators.

Overview

Multi-site organizations struggle to compare performance consistently. Each site may measure the same KPI differently, use different dashboards, or report at different frequencies. Benchmarking solves this by:

  • Aggregating KPI values across the workspace hierarchy (site → project → board → KPI)
  • Computing averages, trends, and rankings per site for any named KPI
  • Presenting a unified SQCDP scorecard matrix for at-a-glance executive review
  • Highlighting best and worst performers with trend arrows

Getting Started

  1. Ensure your organization has multiple sites (level-1 workspaces) with KPI boards configured.
  2. Navigate to Benchmarking from the analytics menu.
  3. Select a KPI name (e.g., "OEE") to see cross-site comparison.
  4. Use the date range picker to focus on a specific period.

How It Works

Data Flow

Benchmarking traverses the full organizational hierarchy to map KPIs to sites:

Organization
└── Workspace (level=1, "site")
└── Project
└── Board
└── KPI Definition → KPI Values

Each KPI definition is mapped back to its ancestor site workspace. This means a KPI named "OEE" on a board in Site A and the same KPI name on a board in Site B are treated as the same metric for comparison purposes.

Site Benchmark

Compare a specific KPI across all sites. For each site, the system computes:

  • Average Value: mean of all KPI values in the date range
  • Value Count: number of data points contributing to the average
  • Traffic-Light Status: green/amber/red based on the KPI's threshold definitions
  • Organization Average: the overall mean across all sites for context

Sites are sorted by average value (best performer first, based on the KPI's direction — higher-is-better or lower-is-better).

SQCDP Category Scorecard

The category scorecard is a matrix view with rows as sites and columns as SQCDP categories (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People). Each cell shows the aggregated status for all KPIs in that category at that site.

SQCDP
Site AlphaGreenAmberGreenRedGreen
Site BetaGreenGreenAmberGreenAmber
Site GammaRedGreenGreenGreenGreen

This gives executives an instant view of which sites are strong or weak in each operational domain.

Trend Comparison

Overlay time-series charts for a single KPI across all sites. Each site appears as a separate line (color-coded by site color) on the same time axis, making it easy to spot divergence or convergence in performance.

Data points are returned chronologically per site, and each site line includes the site's assigned color for consistent chart rendering.

Site Ranking

Rank all sites from best to worst for a specific KPI. Each ranking entry includes:

FieldDescription
RankPosition (1 = best performer)
AverageMean KPI value for the period
TrendArrow indicator: up (improving), down (worsening), flat (stable)
StatusTraffic-light: green, amber, or red

Trend is computed by comparing the average of the first half of the data to the second half, with a 1% threshold to filter noise.

Configuration

Threshold-Based Status

Traffic-light status is evaluated using the KPI definition's threshold values and direction:

  • Higher is better: value ≥ green threshold = green, value ≥ amber threshold = amber, else red
  • Lower is better: value ≤ green threshold = green, value ≤ amber threshold = amber, else red

Date Range Filtering

All benchmarking views support optional date range filtering (dateFrom, dateTo). When no range is specified, all available data is included.

Permissions

  • Workspace Members can view benchmarking data for sites they have access to
  • Organization Admins can view the full cross-site benchmarking dashboard
  • Executive Stakeholders (read-only role) can access the benchmarking dashboards without edit access

Tips & Best Practices

tipp

Use the SQCDP scorecard in monthly executive reviews. A single red cell draws attention immediately to where intervention is needed, without drowning in data.

tipp

When a site consistently ranks first for a specific KPI, organize a knowledge-sharing session where that site's team presents their practices to others. Benchmarking identifies the best practice source.

tipp

Compare trends rather than just averages. A site with a lower average but an upward trend may be more successful than a higher-average site with a declining trend.

  • KPI Boards — the source data that benchmarking aggregates
  • Portfolio — project-level health view complementing site-level benchmarking
  • Tier Meeting — daily meetings where site-level KPIs are reviewed
